Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has urged National Medical Commission to allow Foreign Medical Graduates to undergo internship training in non-teaching institutes as the available seats are not enough to accommodate all applicants.

In a letter to NMC, Dr. Girish Tyagi, DMC Secretary, said that there are only 60 seats available for being allotted for internship training. By seeing the number of seats and number of applications received, we will not be able to provide internship even to FMGE belonging to Delhi, he said.

The DMC said that a total 230 individuals belonging to Delhi applied to start the internship in various medical colleges in Delhi. “Over 1000 students are desirous of starting an internship in Delhi but we called the applications only from Delhi Domicile individuals. Further, as per the information received, there are only 60 seats available in the current scenario for being allotted for internship training.”, said DMC, asking that it will not be able to provide internship even to FMGE belonging to Delhi.

The DMC urged that to accommodate the large number of the applicants, they may be allowed to undergo internship training in Non-Teaching institute as it was done last year.
