The Delhi government on Tuesday decided to impose a weekend curfew in the capital city.

In a virtual meeting held on Tuesday, the authority suggested for weekend curfew in Delhi to curb the growing Covid infection. No non-essential movement will be allowed during the weekend curfew. The meeting was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. The meeting discussed imposing more restrictions in the city as massive surge in Covid cases have been reported in past few days.

According to the DDMA order, all government offices, except those dealing with essential services, will work from home. A cap of 50 per cent occupancy has been imposed on private offices. 
Delhi on Monday reported 4099 fresh Covid cases, the highest single-day rise after May 18 when the tally was also 4482.The new cases have pushed the infection tally to 14,58,220 in the city. One Covid death was also reported in the city, taking death toll at 25,110.

Meanwhile, the Covid infection in the city has climbed to 6.46 per cent, highest in last seven months. According to the Delhi Health department, the city had recorded 6.89 per cent positivity rate on May 18.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday said that the capital city has seen 84 per cent cases of Omicron variant in last two days. Of total genomen sequencing report from Delhi’s three labs -ILBS, LNJP and NCDC, 84 per cent has been reported Omicron varaint, said Minister Jain on Monday.
