AIIMS Rheumatology Department to organize Rheuma Summit in March

The Rheuma Summit has been designed to enlighten the audience about the role of environment in the causation of rheumatological disorders & current treatment strategies.

The premier health institute of India All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS Delhi) is going to organize Rheuma Summit in Delhi next month. The Rheuma Summit will be organized by the department of Rheumatology at AIIMS on 21st & 22nd March 2020. The theme of the summit will be ‘Rheumatological disorders and environment: Time to live in harmony’.

Prof. Uma Kumar, Head, Department of Rheumatology, says that the theme has been chosen very carefully to fit the changing scenario of rheumatological disorders globally. She adds that the past decade has witnessed increasing incidence and prevalence of variety of rheumatological disorders in the population. But, the pathogenesis of these disorders is largely unknown despite tremendous progress in their diagnostics and therapeutics. Since individual’s genetic susceptibility is insufficient to explain the development, perpetuation and severity of rheumatological disorders, the focus has shifted to environmental factors and epigenetic regulations. Environmental factors like infection, vaccination, hormonal, diet, vitamin D, smoking, obesity, and microbiota have been implicated in the pathogenesis of these disorders, says Prof. Uma Kumar..

The Rheuma Summit has been designed to enlighten the audience about the role of environment in the causation of rheumatological disorders & current treatment strategies. Better understanding of the host-environment interaction in the pathogenesis of inflammatory rheumatological disorders will open the options for preventive treatment. This summit will bring together the clinicians and researchers from diverse background, providing them with an opportunity to collaborate and interact with each other.

The summit will be organized in Jawahar Lal Nehru Auditorium.
