NVIDIA partners with AstraZeneca and the University of Florida for AI-powered drug discovery

NVIDIA is collaborating with AstraZeneca and the University of Florida’s academic health center on a transformer-based generative AI model for chemical structures used in drug discovery. The model will be open-sourced, available to researchers & developers in the NVIDIA NGC software catalog. NVIDIA Clara Discovery aims to give researchers tools needed to discover promising pharmaceuticals faster.

Study conducted on older adults with familial and genetic risk for Alzheimer's disease. COVID Survivor in MP Diagnosed With ‘Green Fungus’

After Black Fungus(mucormycosis), Yellow fungus, and White Fungs, a Covid survivor from Indore, MP has been diagnosed with "Green Fungs" (Aspergillosis). This is likely the first case of aspergillosis post-COVID recovery to be reported in India. The patient was airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment. Aspergillosis is a relatively uncommon infection and affects the lungs.

Delta Plus variant of Covid-19 identified, to be tracked

The 'Delta' variant of SARS-CoV-2 has mutated to the 'Delta plus' or '​AY.1' variant. The Delta+ has not yet been classified as a variant of concern. "As per data available in the public domain, this variant nullifies the use of a monoclonal antibody. We will study and learn more about this variant," the Niti Aayog member said."

Long working hours increasing deaths from heart disease & stroke: WHO, ILO

Working 55 or more hours per week is associated with an estimated 35% higher risk of a stroke and a 17% higher risk of dying from ischemic heart disease, compared to working 35-40 hours a week. This work-related disease burden is particularly significant in men - about 72% of deaths occurred among males. “Working 55 hours or more per week is a serious health hazard,” added Dr Maria Neira, at WHO.

OLED ‘Skin’ that display heartbeat and can be stretched by up to 30% is here

Researchers at Samsung have developed an OLED ‘Skin’ that allows measuring biometric data for a longer period without having to remove the solution while sleeping or exercising. The device measures and display the user’s heart rate in real-time. Also, wrist movement did not cause any property deterioration, with the solution remaining reliable with skin elongation of up to 30%.
