Loading...Underlining that Orthodontic practices are currently facing numerous challenges and one of the most significant being the practice of the profession by non-specialists, top orthodontists have emphasised that quality in orthodontics is essential for maintaining high standards in patient care, treatment outcomes, and professional ethics.
At the 28th Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) Postgraduate Convention 2025 at Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC), health experts highlighted the ethical, clinical, and regulatory aspects of orthodontics emphasizing the importance of consistency across different setups.
Dr. Puneet Batra, President IOS, said “Standardized protocols, continuous skill enhancement, and ethical practices are key to ensuring long-term success and trust in orthodontic care. Orthodontic practices are currently facing numerous challenges, one of the most significant being the practice of orthodontics by non-specialists. General dentists who have not received formal training in orthodontics are now providing treatments, despite orthodontics being a super-specialized field.”
Voicing another concern, Dr Batra added, “Another major challenge is misinformation, particularly due to the influence of advertisements promoting in-house or do-it-yourself (DIY) orthodontic treatments.
Dr. Sanjay Labh, Secretary, Indian Orthodontic Society elaborated on quality management in orthodontics and its ethical considerations, stressing the importance of maintaining standardized treatment protocols across different clinical setups to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
