23 new Covid infections in Delhi, hospitals on alert with availability of beds, oxygen

With the national capital Delhi recording 23 active COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government has issued an advisory mandating all hospitals to prepare for availability of beds, oxygen, medicines and vaccine. The government also asked health institutions to send all positive samples for genome sequencing to Lok Nayak Hospital.
Delhi health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh who chaired a review meeting on the current COVID-19 situation, said, “As of yesterday (Thursday), Delhi has reported a total of 23 active COVID-19 cases”. The health department also issued a standard advisory to all hospitals across the city to ensure COVID-19 preparedness.
Meanwhile, four people tested positive for COVID-19 in Ghaziabad, prompting the health department to increase surveillance in the district, officials said on Friday. While three of the infected individuals are currently in home isolation, one patient has been admitted to a private hospital. All four cases were reported from the Trans-Hindon area of the district.
The neighbouring Haryana also reported four active Covid-19 cases – two in Gurugram and two in Faridabad – with no international travel. Haryana health minister Arti Singh Rao said the state health department is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and preparedness. She also said that there was no cause for panic. The cases — two male and two female patients — are mild and are currently under home quarantine with regular medical supervision.
The advisory issued by Delhi govt said, “The hospitals must ensure preparedness in terms of availability of beds, oxygen, antibiotics, other drugs and vaccines. All equipment such as ventilators, Bi-PAP, oxygen concentrators and PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) must be in functional condition.” It added that the daily reporting of all parameters must also be done on the Delhi State Health Data Management Portal.
According to the advisory, refresher training of dedicated staff may be conducted and daily reporting of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in all health facilities (OPD/IPD) on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) portal must be ensured. Confirmed influenza and Covid-19 cases may also be reported on IHIP under the L form. The advisory also states that respiratory etiquettes are to be followed, including the wearing of masks on hospital premises and health facilities. Several states, including Gujarat, Haryana and Kerala, are reporting Covid-19 cases.
Commenting on the advisory, city health minister said, “This is a routine surveillance measure to ensure readiness. There is absolutely no cause for concern.” The Health Department continues to monitor developments closely and will keep the public informed with timely updates.
Gujarat had recorded 15 new coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said the state had reported 182 Covid-19 cases in May. On May 21, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao confirmed that the state had 16 active Covid-19 cases.
