Expert explains reason behind lung cancer in non-smokers

Despite the widespread belief that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, some people can develop lung cancer even if they have never smoked. Health experts explain the common cause behind rising lung cancer among non smokers.

Increased air pollution from cars, power plants, and other industrial facilities is a major factor in the rising rate of lung cancer. Long-term exposure to dirty air increases the risk of acquiring lung cancer, according to medical professionals. The health of people is particularly at risk in areas with high concentrations of PM2.5 particles

Radon, a naturally occurring byproduct of uranium decay, is a chemically inert gas. One of the main causes of lung cancer is believed to be radon gas exposure. Despite the fact that radon gas is almost universally present, those who inhale high levels of radon are more susceptible to lung cancer.

Homes that are well insulated, tightly sealed, and constructed on soil rich in the elements uranium, radium, and thorium have higher radon levels than other types of homes. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon is a leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.”

In comparison to other nonsmokers, nonsmokers who live with a smoker have a higher risk of developing lung cancer. Up to 7,000 compounds may be present in passive smoking, at least 250 of which are known to be dangerous. The government has prohibited smoking in public places because of this.
