The lungs are involved by a multitude of causes ranging from congenital to systemic diseases, lifestyle related, connective tissue disorders and other acquired ailments. Air pollution has become a major contributor to the damage caused to our lungs. A significant number of these lung diseases are progressive and relentless inspite of major advancements in therapeutics. The result is hundreds of thousands of patients who become dependent on supplemental oxygen for their survival. These patients have significant morbidity and loss of quality of life associated with end stage lung disease.
