Orthopedic experts across globe discuss revision of ‘Knee and Hip Replacement surgeries’ in Delhi

A three-day “Revision Arthroplasty Conference” (RAC 2025) which commenced on Friday in the national capital dedicated to complex Revision Knee and Hip Replacement surgeries stressed the importance of skilled revision surgeons and advanced training nationwide, making revision arthroplasty a national priority.

The conference has brought together over 850 orthopedic surgeons, international faculty, and leading arthroplasty experts from across India and overseas. This edition of the conference is further expected to elevate the scientific standards and mark a major step forward in strengthening the country’s readiness to address rising hip and knee replacement implant aging and sometimes early failures.

“With nearly 5 lakh primary knee and hip replacements performed annually in India, and most implants lasting 20–25 years, the nation is now entering a critical phase where tens of thousands of earlier implants are beginning to loosen, wear out, or fail. RAC 2025 placed a strong spotlight on this growing healthcare burden and the urgent need for surgeons trained specifically in revision procedures,” said Dr (Prof.) Anil Arora, Chairman & Head of Robotic Knee & Hip Replacement & Orthopaedics at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Patparganj, and Organising Chairman of RAC.

Dr Arora said India is entering an era where trained “revision” knee and hip replacement surgeons are no longer optional—they are essential.

A Guinness World Record and Limca Book of Records holder, Dr Arora emphasized that India is standing at the brink of a massive shift from primary to revision arthroplasty—a shift that demands preparedness, precision, and advanced training.

Dr. Deepak Kumar Arora, Organising Secretary, RAC 2025, said “RAC will create a national movement towards safer, smarter, and more predictable revision outcomes. Revision Arthroplasty is no longer a niche skill—it is becoming a national necessity. RAC has been successful in bringing together the finest minds in orthopaedics to standardize revision protocols and create a uniform scientific foundation across India. The exchange of knowledge, surgical planning strategies, and real-world case discussions will directly translate into better patient outcomes nationwide.”

Dr Akshay Chandel, Organising Secretary, RAC 2025, said “RAC has emerged as one of the most academically robust meetings in Asia for revision arthroplasty since its inception. The scientific depth, the quality of discussions, and the surgeon engagement reflect India’s commitment to advancing revision science. Events like RAC are crucial for ensuring that every revision patient receives care aligned with global best practices.”

As India’s population of aging implants continues to grow, inadequate training may result in early re-failure, repeat surgeries, escalated treatment costs, and long-term disability for patients.
