Injurious side of masks; AIIMS Director advises on when and how to use masks that can protect against covid-19 infection

AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria, talking to media, today gave some tips to use the mask in the proper way.

New Delhi:  Among the rising number of fresh cases of Covid-19 every day, stepping outside from home has become riskier. Till the time we come up with any vaccine for Coronavirsus, what can protect us against infection is wearing a mask and using gloves.

Only wearing a mask is not enough. But we need to know the proper technique to use the mask. It is also important to understand when we should use a mask and when it can be pulled off.

Against coronavirus infection, N95 respirator usually filtrates pathogens in the air much better than a surgical mask.

AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria, talking to media, today gave some tips to use mask in the proper way.

He categorically pointed out that the mask is supposed to be used for a limited time only. Using a mask for a long time can prove injurious to health. It can have many adverse impacts on the body and mind.

Using a mask for a longer period can reduce the oxygen level in blood. It can also reduce oxygen from your brain. And, soon one can start feeling weakness. Even, it can lead to one’s death.

He said that don’t use the mask for a longer period. Pull the mask off when alone. Don’t use mask while in car. Don’t use mask at home.

Use the mask only when stuck in a crowded place or in close contact with one or more persons.

Reduce the use of mask while isolating yourself most of the time.
