760 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, 2 deaths

Continuing an increasing trend, India on Thursday reported 760 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. However, the active cases have dipped to 4,423.  In the same time span, the nation has reported two deaths – one each in Karnataka and Kerala. The fresh fatalities took the overall death toll to 5,33,373, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, a total of 511 cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in the country so far with the maximum recorded in Karnataka. An official on Wednesday said that a total 199 cases have been reported from Karnataka, 148 from Kerala, 47 from Goa, 36 from Gujarat, 32 from Maharashtra, 26 from Tamil Nadu, 15 from Delhi, four from Rajasthan, two from Telangana and one each from Odisha and Haryana.

 As the cases of JN.1 sub-variant have been rising in the country, the states were asked to ensure effective compliance of the detailed operational guidelines for revised surveillance strategy for COVID-19. They were also advised to monitor and report district-wise cases of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) in all health facilities.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease stands at over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent. As per the ministry data, total 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have so far been administered in the country.
