World Cancer Day 2025: Timely intervention critical in fight against cancer, experts at ILBS

On occasion of World Cancer Day 2025, the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) held a program with top oncologists and underlined that the timely intervention and treatment is the only way to fight against rising cancer in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S.K. Sarin, Director, ILBS highlighted that the institute’s commitment to comprehensive cancer care. “At ILBS, we believe in a holistic approach to cancer treatment, combining advanced medical care with emotional and psychological support. World Cancer Day serves as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to this cause,” he stated.

Shri D.S. Negi, in his address, focused on the importance of accessible and affordable cancer care. “Timely intervention is critical in the fight against cancer. We must strive to ensure that quality treatment reaches all sections of society, irrespective of their economic status,” he asserted.

Dr. Ajit Kumar spoke about the critical role of environmental factors in cancer. “A healthy environment is crucial for preventing many types of cancer. We must prioritize sustainable practices and create awareness about the impact of environmental pollution on public health,” he stressed. Speaking about his experience as a cancer survivor himself, he stressed the importance of a positive mental attitude while battling this disease.

The program also featured an insightful public lecture by Dr. Vineet Talwar, Director, Medical Oncology, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, on the latest advancements in cancer treatment. Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar led a session focusing on the psycho-social aspects of cancer care, while Dr. Hanuman Prasad provided an overview of the radiation oncology services at ILBS.
