Total 14 Patanjali products license cancelled, SC hearing scheduled for Tuesday

The Uttarakhand government has initiated major action against Baba Ramdev in light of misleading advertisements concerning COVID-19 treatments, with a significant development expected in the Supreme Court this Tuesday.. The Supreme Court has been critical of both Baba Ramdev and the state government, citing repeated instances of misleading claims made in advertisements by Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy.

Just before the hearing, the Uttarakhand government issued a ban on the manufacturing of 14 products, including well-known Ayurvedic medicines like Dristi Eye Drops, Madhunashini Vati, Shwasari Gold, and others, citing failure to provide necessary information as required.

The Department of Medicine in Uttarakhand declared that due to the continuous publication and broadcasting of misleading advertisements about the efficacy of their products, it was compelled to take this step. In a statement to the Supreme Court, the licensing authority noted that these measures were taken under the provisions of Section 159(1) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1945. Patanjali has been given a three-month period to appeal against this order.
