DSCI conducts session on ‘Management of Liver Cancer- Diagnosis to Advanced therapies’

The Delhi State Cancer Institute held a session on ‘Management of Liver Cancer- Diagnosis to Advanced therapies’ on the occasion of World Cancer Day on Saturday. It was also the occasion of one year of the completion of knowledge partnership between DSCI and Roche.

Dr Sajjan Rajpurohit, Director, Medical Oncology & Centre Head of Max Super speciality Hospital, Dr Kishore Singh, Director, DSCI, Dr Pragya Shukla, HOD , Clinical oncology, DSCI, Dr Pankaj Tyagi, Associate Prof, Gastroenterology, and Mr Vinay Subramanian, Chief operating officer, Roche Pharma addressed the occasion.

 “One among 89 people is at risk of developing liver cancer. 26000 cases have been detected in 2020 In India. At the one hand due to tobacco control, oral cavity, larynx cancer cases are coming down but at the other hand alcohol consumption is increasing and so as liver cancer cases”, said Dr Kishore Singh, Director, DSCI. He said that it is a ripe time to start planning as strategic management and availability of drugs has increased so as the survivorship.

“It really does not matter that how much fund the Govt is allocating for Health, what really matters is awareness among people in terms of life style, habits, diet and exercise to stay healthy”, Dr Singh said.

Dr Sajjan Rajpurohit said that a little prevention in terms of Liver Cancer can cure much.  Alcoholism has become the part of our life style. Liver cancer does not happen in a day. It is 70-80 per cent preventable so just by paying attention towards symptoms we may save ourselves from Liver Cancer.

On this occasion, total 31 nurses received certificate for completing three weeks of “Oncology Nurse Training Program- a skill development program”.
