AIIMS Rheumatology dept gets 20-beded facilities

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has introduced a state-of-the-art ward in its Rheumatology Department, featuring 20 specialized beds. This ward is dedicated to treating patients with arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and musculoskeletal disorders. AIIMS receives hundreds of patients daily for rheumatology treatment, some of whom require hospitalization. Previously, such patients were admitted to other wards, but now they will receive specialized care in this dedicated ward.

HOD Dr. Uma Kumar Speaks

Dr. Uma Kumar, Head of the Rheumatology Department, stated that patients will now be admitted directly to the department’s ward, ensuring specialized care under expert supervision. This ward has been operational since Friday, with trained medical staff appointed to provide necessary care.

Advanced and Convenient Medical Services

This new ward is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, ensuring better treatment for patients. Additionally, essential services such as occupational therapy and blood tests are available within the ward.

Widespread Impact of Arthritis

According to Dr. Uma Kumar, arthritis does not just affect joints but can also impact the eyes, kidneys, lungs, and intestines. In severe cases, it can lead to heart complications, intestinal gangrene, or excessive bleeding, requiring immediate hospitalization and treatment.

Diseases Treated in the Rheumatology Department

The AIIMS Rheumatology Department specializes in treating various musculoskeletal and autoimmune disorders, including lupus, spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, osteoporosis, and other related conditions. This specialized ward will cater to patients from across the country.

With this new facility, patients will receive advanced healthcare services, further enhancing the treatment and management of rheumatological diseases.
