A Human Rights activist, R.H. Bansal in his plea had complaint that a 19-year mentally retarded woman detained in Asha Kiran Home was raped during her detention in the home and she got pregnant. He expressed the apprehension that other women may also be victims of rape in the home. In his complaint, he had demanded a high level enquiry by a team of the Commission, and FIR against the guilty persons in this matter.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has ordered Department of Social Welfare, Delhi Government, probe into the alleged rape of a 19-year old mentally retarded woman detained in Asha Kiran Home in Rohini, Delhi.

The NHRC had expressed concern over the rape in the shelter home and ordered submission of a detailed report along with its recommendations to the Commission within four weeks.

“It is expected that investigations in this matter shall be processed in a discrete manner to avoid any further possibility of fabrication of documents etc by the concerned public servants,” the proceeding of commission said.

 “Thereafter, she was taken to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini, and her pregnancy was aborted. After this incident, the enquiry report case file in this matter has been misplaced deliberately,” he added.
