The Mahawari Mahabhoj was hosted by Dr. Surbhi Singh and food was prepared and served by 28 menstruating women.

In the backdrop of recent incident of Gujarat where some girl college students in a hostel were made to strip to prove their menstruating to enter into the kitchen & temple premises, Sachhi Saheli NGO organized today a feast called ‘Period-feast’ in Mayur Vihar to uphold the dignity of women.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present on the occasion.  Theater Director Mr. Arvind Gaur and renowned poet and writer Ms. Kamala Bhasin, Mrs. Vidhi Gupta Anand (Judge, Metropolitan Magistrate) among other were graced the occasion to support the initiative of Sachhi Saheli to honor menstruating women.

The young undergraduate women of Shree Sahajanand Girls Institute in Bhuj district of Gujarat were made the subject of such notorious and heinous activity few days back which raised serious concerns across the nation. Pointing out the traditional approach about menstruating women, their entry was banned in kitchen and even it was said that those women who are cooking during menstruation will be reborn as bitch. Such irresponsive statement got serious criticism across the nation.

The Mahawari Mahabhoj was hosted by Dr. Surbhi Singh and her team at NGO Sachhi Saheli, wherein the food was prepared and served by 28 menstruating women. These menstruating women said that they were deliberately chosen to oppose Swami’s controversial statement and have presented an example before our society to end their discrimination against women from cooking and entering the kitchen during periods.  One menstruating woman said that such restrictions do not hold any importance today, if we, the women of the house do not cook then who will feed our families, we just need to be hygienic.
