Hospital head to file FIR in case of violence, doctors stage protest at Health Ministry

Amid the ongoing stir across the nation over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the union health ministry on Friday said that the head of the institution will be responsible for filing an FIR within six hours of the incident of violence against healthcare workers while on duty.
In an official notification, the union health ministry said, “It is stated that in the event of any violence against any healthcare worker while on duty, the Head of Institution shall be responsible for filing an institutional FIR within a maximum of 6 hours of the incident.”
Meanwhile, continuing their protest, hundreds of agitating doctors from major hospitals staged a sit-in protest outside the Nirman Bhawan demanding safety for medics and justice for the trainee doctor who was raped and brutally murdered in Kolkata. Holding posters and banners, the doctors chanted slogans like ‘We want justice’, ‘No safety, no duty’ and ‘Awaz do, hum ek hain’ to express their anger and concerns about their safety.
Later in the evening, a six-member of the doctors’ delegation went inside the Nirman Bhawan to meet the Additional Secretary and proposed to form a committee to implement the CPA in the upcoming period of 3 months.
Dr. Suvrankar Datta, Vice President, RDA AIIMS DELHI, said, “We met health ministry senior officials and discussed our demand of Central Protection Act for Doctors. But still we have not been given any assurance for the implementation and will continue with the ongoing strike.
Dr Harsh Parmar, Gen Secretary, Delhi State Cancer Institute, said, “ we will discuss the outcomes of the meetings with resident doctors in general body meeting to finalise the further course of action”.
Meanwhile, the Faculty Association of AIIMS (FAIMS), Delhi, has announced that routine OPD and operation theatre services will be suspended on Saturday to protest against the alleged rape
and murder of a trainee woman doctor at a state-run hospital Kolkata and subsequent vandalism at the facility. Doctors at the Centre-run hospitals Safdarjung and RML will hold a silent protest march, sporting black ribbons, in solidarity with the protesting doctors
