Ministry of AYUSH has taken cognizance of advertising about Baba Ramdev’s claim of preparing the first Ayurvedic medicine for Covid-19 treatment by Patanjali Ayurved.
New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Tuesday launched the first Ayurvedic medicine for Covid-19 treatment. Baba Ramdev claimed that his Ayurvedic Company Patanjali has prepared the first Ayurvedic Covid-19 treatment for deadly coronavirus.
As per the claim made by Yoga Guru, the medicine called –Coronil- has been prepared after clinical research and is clinically controlled trial based evidence and research-based medicine and will help in treating covid-19.
However, the Ministry of AYUSH has taken cognizance of advertising about Baba Ramdev’s claim of preparing the first Ayurvedic medicine for Covid-19 treatment by Patanjali Ayurved.
The Ayush Ministry clarified that the facts of the claim and details of the claimed scientific study have not been provided to the ministry. Ministry has requested Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority to provide copies of license and product approval details of the Ayurvedic medicines being claimed for the treatment of COVID -19.
Taking cognizance of Patanjali’s claim, the Ministry has provided details about regulations of drug advertisements including Ayurvedic medicines and the directives issued by the Central Government in the wake of COVID outbreak, and has issued a Gazette Notification about the requirements and the manner the research studies on COVID-19 with Ayush interventions and medicines should be undertaken.
Ayush Ministry has asked Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda to stop advertising such claims by the time all issue gets resolved. The Ministry has asked Patanjali Ayurved to provide at the earliest details of the name and composition of the medicines being claimed for COVID-19 treatment, research center where study was done, protocol, sample size, Institutional Ethics Committee clearance, CTRI registration and results data of the study.
