The Sero-survey examines the presence of antibodies against that infection in blood serum of a group of persons.

The premier agency for the formulation of medical research Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) has clarified that media reports about the findings of a survey – sero-survey – conducted by the agency are purely speculative. The findings of the survey have widely been discussed in media from the last two days. However, the survey findings have not been finalized yet, says ICMR on twitter.

This is the first population-based Sero-Survey that has been conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to evaluate the extent of exposure to Covid-19 infection. The Indian Council of Medical Research with the help of state governments, National Centre for Disease Control and India’s office of World Health Organisation  has surveyed examined randomly chosen individuals’ samples of close to 24,000 from 70 districts across India, from.

However, the media report about the findings say that nearly 30% of the population in several containment areas may have acquired the disease and recovered. ICMR has said that these findings are speculative and survey results are yet to be finalized.
