The bill is ready to be introduced in upper house on Thursday on August 1, 2019. RDA doctors are demanding for amendments of certain provision in the NMC bill.

In the much-agitated Medical Commission Bill that was passed from Lok Sabha on Monday, the bill has the provision to create National Medical Commission in place of Medical Council of India (MCI). The Bill was passed with 260 members voting in its favour and 48 against it.

The bill is ready to be introduced in upper house on Thursday on August 1, 2019.

Resident Doctors Association has warned of withdrawal of all services from tomorrow 8 am if the sought amendments are not made in the bill. Resident Doctors Association will go on indefinite strike from morning till their demands are met.  The indefinite strike will be held across the nation and will include emergency services too.

The Bill provides that the common final year MBBS exam be known as National Exit Test which would serve as a licentiate exam for entrance to post-graduate medical courses and as a screening test for foreign medical graduates.

The Bill provides that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) will conduct an assessment of medical colleges and develop a system of ranking them which would enable students to choose medical colleges wisely. It provides for the repeal of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.
